Repairing our shelters

Updated: Oct 10, 2023

We are asking for help to repair our damaged animal enclosure.

The area in need of a complete rebuild is our duck, goose and pig enclosure. Having last year suffered winter damage along with natural aging it has now faced a tree falling on it! The tree has caused significant damage and we’re worried about foxes being able to get in. We also now face regular avian influenza (bird flu) lockdowns. This means from November to spring all our birds including ducks, geese and chickens must be kept either indoors or under netting. Whilst we have currently netted our duck pond and enclosure, we know this isn’t the most secure method and would like to enhance our biosecurity. The area is also the first thing our visitors see and we’re being really honest here - it looks a mess! Take a look at a few pictures below to see for yourself. We are asking for help to rebuild the enclosure. There are several ways you can help below.

1: Contribute financially

We are expecting this area to cost around £1000. We need new wood, wiring, tin sheets and concreting materials. As well as smaller items such as hinges, screws and staples. We have created a GoFundMe fundraiser to help raise money specifcally for this project here: https://gofund.me/cda5859e You can leave a donation here on our website.

2: Donate materials

We are seeking any support from local building firms asking if they can donate any new or unwanted materials to help remodel our enclosures. We have in the past had tremendous support from firms such as Travis Perkins. We have also previously had supporters gift unwanted wood from their own gardens, we never expect things to be brand new, just in good useable condition. Please contact us if you’re able to help in this way.

3: Volunteer to help repair

While we are very fortunate to have a few skilled DIYers at our yard who manage the day-to-day maintenance jobs. But as this is a bigger project we welcome any extra hands! Please feel free to give us a message if you’re able to help.

It is super easy to leave a donation, just visit this page or click the button below and follow the instructions on the page. Or feel free to contact us either by form, phone or Facebook.

Thank you for all your support,

With love, Northcote Horses and Animals.
