Celebrating Merlin

Updated: Oct 10, 2023

Ten years ago today, a small but mighty addition was made to our sanctuary family. Merlin, the Shetland pony, arrived and has been a source of joy and wonder ever since. As we celebrate this milestone, it's important to reflect on the impact that Merlin has had on our sanctuary, and how grateful we are to have him as a part of our family.

Merlin arrived at our sanctuary on a sunny summers day, after a short journey from his previous home. He was timid at first, unsure of his new surroundings and the other animals he would be sharing space with. But as time passed, Merlin began to come out of his shell and show us all what a special pony he truly is.

Over the past ten years, Merlin has become an integral part of our sanctuary. He has a gentle, calm demeanor that puts even the most anxious visitors at ease. Children in particular are drawn to him, and he has become a beloved fixture at our annual open house events. Watching him interact with the other animals on our sanctuary, it's clear that Merlin has a unique and special bond with each and every one of them.

Merlin's role at our sanctuary goes beyond just being an adorable and friendly animal for visitors to enjoy. He also plays an important role in our therapy programs. Many of our visitors, particularly those with disabilities or special needs, find solace in spending time with Merlin. His presence has a calming effect on those around him, and we've seen firsthand the positive impact he can have on people's emotional well-being.

Of course, Merlin's impact isn't limited to just our sanctuary. Over the years, we've received countless messages from visitors who have been touched by Merlin's gentle spirit. He's been featured in local news stories, and even had his own social media accounts (run, of course, by his dedicated team of caregivers). It's clear that Merlin has become something of a local celebrity, and we couldn't be prouder of him.

As we celebrate the ten-year anniversary of Merlin's arrival at our sanctuary, we're filled with gratitude for all that he has brought to our lives. He's taught us about the power of patience, kindness, and unconditional love. He's shown us that even the smallest and seemingly most insignificant beings can have a big impact on the world around them. And he's reminded us of the importance of taking the time to appreciate and cherish the simple things in life.

So here's to Merlin, our beloved Shetland pony. Thank you for being a part of our sanctuary family for the past ten years. We look forward to many more years of love, laughter, and learning from you.
